''NEW MEDIA ARE N(YOU) MEDIA''

HYPERDESIGN IDENTITIES
“The new media are a function of YOU.”
“New media relentlessly emphasize you.”

The Project looks at the idea of a phygital materiality – bridging the digital and analog – with a focus on textiles and composites. Research will engage this new material culture emerging across a range of fields including fashion, sports, medical, art, architecture, interiors, and objects.
This discourse will include a casestudy of the groundbreaking textile architecture of Testa & Weiser from the CCA collection. Texts from Gottfried Semper to Sadie Plant; T’ai Smith to Reza Negarestani contribute to the conversation on post-extraction materialism. In parallel with research, the seminar incorporates the Textile Hacking Lab, a playful team-based project using bespoke C4D digital knitting techniques to design a limited knitwear collection.

In design, we are plagued with horrific and shocking images. The collection of Plastiglomerate images by geologist Patricia Corcoran and sculptor Kelly Jazvac is one of the many centerpieces that help us discuss the topic of ecology.

Learning from the knitwear design by Matty Bovan, we intended to create multiple scenes composed by fictional arrangements of mannequins in knitwear. Similar to the randomness of the knitting, our design concept is artificial wildness, resembling the natural jungle under the era of anthropocene.
